SOLO MISSION IN SOUTH AFRICA

Today i went on a solo mission to this lake in South Africa.
I stopped to take this photo at the gate.

I lied... It's lake Perris. Just checkin' the scene at the marina.

I didn't mess around... i went straight to my hot spot. It was really nice out today.

I doubt it.

Insurance!!! I'm not very good at taking pictures of myself.

FIRST FALL AT PERRIS

Kenny rallied Mike and I to go fishing a few days ago. So we got up before the crack of dawn to make it to Perris when the gates open at 6am.

When we got there, we found out that starting today, the marina opens at 7am.

Mike and Kenny ro shaming to see who has to drive the boat first. Kenny won.

I'm checkin' my gear.

I followed suit. Today most of them were little baby backs.

Mike finally got his skunk insurance. He got lucky, not only was it pretty nice, it was his only one.

LAKE HOLLYWOOD: MISSION FAILED

Lany and I found out that there is a little reservoir in Hollywood. So we decided to take a stab at it. Hollywood is SERIOUS about keeping you out, we had to climb over multiple super tall barbed wire fences and the biggest surprise was the spider guards they installed.

This is my bad photo of Lany walking all over me trying to hop the first fence.

We found a better spot.

The first fence was just to get to the road. This second way higher fence was to get to the lake. Lany tried it barefoot.

When we finally made it in, we walked halfway across the lake try to find a way down to the lake. It's like 100 feet down from the fence. And there was literally no way down.

We didn't even get close to the water. Hollywood stumped us. But we'll be back. We're gonna scope during the day and figure it out. Updates soon.

Loading up on the bait, anchovies and sardines. The anchovies were the ticket though.

Sand Bass!

Chris, with a Chocolate Bass! His first saltwater fish.

Anthony, with a Calico Bass. He was fly lining a anchovie off the stern, he just learned how to cast 10 mins before he hooked up!

The kelp beds in the afternoon produced the calico's. We had a pretty good day, everyone was catching fish. We ended up with 7 assorted fish, sandbass, calicos, and some rockfish.

The winner of the Jack Pot! The deckhand was asking if anyone had a bigger fish to challenge this Barracuda. It looks like that dude in the back raising his hand, thought he did...but the barracuda prevailed.

These guys where around all day. I think one of them dropped a dumpling in my beer.

It must have taken me 5 hours to catch my first one. Not a good day. By this time the heat was unbearable. Skunk insurance will always bring a smile though.

First time at Lake Poway. There was tons of shad all over the lake. Near the dock you could see fish breaking the surface. I tired to fish the dock, but got yelled at. I guess that's a no fishing zone.

So I fished on the other side of the lake and farmed the first two fish I had on, finally after some tackle adjustments. I was able to land one.

The bites were scattered and very subtle, but the fish fought hard. I ended up catching 4 and farming 3. Not bad...

We went to Lake Isabella over Easter weekend, my camera got waterlogged and broke so I haven't been able to get the photos on my computer until today. My Dad's off-road vehicle.

I caught 3 bass this size from shore. Every photo looks exactly the same, except with different backgrounds.

My Uncle's bassboat is getting worked on and the boat rentals were closed.. not to mention to rent a boat for the day at Isabella is $200 or more for a regular tin boat. But back to this photo. Wassup?!

Since Lance and Mike are out of town doing some fishing elsewhere, Banes and i decided to bring the Bass Wassup heat to Lake Perris. Banes was running a little late, so i got right to work by the marina... Nada.

Ladies and Gents, I give you... Captain Banes! We knew right where to go for the Perris Classic. We wanted results.

Banes started the day off right with this beauty.

It took me a while but i landed this guy, which made that sick, skunky feeling go away.

Banes found the sweet spot. Here Captain Banes has a mouthful of seeds and a handful of BASS.

We started cruising through our sweet spot when Banes pulled this sucker out. Banes checking the weight.

Banes throwing the signature Bass Wassup. At this point we were getting excited cause this was a really nice looking fish. As Banes put his fish back in the water, something was happening on my end of the boat...

Uh oh! As i was putting my face mask on, this lunker was getting some lunch on the end of my line. I had to walk around the boat a few times to wear this sucker out, but in the end, fish on the boat! After releasing this fish, Banes and i sat down for a quick break and a laugh. I was so happy at this point.

Here's another shot of her. The face on this fish was HUGE.

I didn't want to slow down after that one, so i pulled this 5 lbs er on the boat a little later.

RAINY DAY FISHING

The forecast warned my Dad and I of the rain. What we didn't expect was the wind and choppy water, add in the rain and lack of tackle (Lance had some of the necessities in San Diego) and today ended up being pretty rough. Anyways, this is a very early pre-wind catch. The day did start promising. Insured.

The insurance came quick for both of us.

I was feeling pretty confident after this one. Underline = unintentional.

The wind gods were called in. We were either speed drifting or bumping the shore.

Side Note: Don't take pantoon boats out on windy days. We had to play savior to two separate pantoon boats. There engines were dying and one got stuck in the back of a cove. We tried to tow them out, but rental boat motor's are like bad little jokes. Or like when I try to be funny. They barely work, so we ended up making a few trips to the dock to get the patrol boats.

This guy lives on the West side of the Lake, he catches bass.

I can't keep a straight face, nor can I get rid of the underline. Green Circle Blogger Status.

Mike, Kenny, Banes, and I got up bright and early to rip some lips at Irvine Lake.

Well, Kenny and Mike's alarms didn't go off, so I headed there by myself to get everything prepared for the day.

Oh and I forgot. Banes' alarm didn't go off either, so he bailed.

Mike and Kenny make it. To our delight, Mike dropped his sunglasses in the water while getting in the boat.

I lost my elph battery charger, so Kenny and I are taking iphone pics. Kenny's iphone has that artistic touch.

The only touch I have is for settin hooks! First of 10 for me. We got 22 between the 3 of us today.

I'll kill you.

It's fishing time again. Bright and early, we're back!

Mike needed to warm up, so he went ahead and farmed the first fish he hooked.

I had no action at this point, so I turned to some comfort snacks for motivation.

It's good luck to start the day off with a bass mug full of coffee.

We started the day half an hour eariler on day two. Got on the water 5:20am.

My Dad smokin, while my Uncle Dave (owner of the bass boat) and Mike still groggy.

If you didn't know any better, you'd think that I thought catching the first fish of the morning is the worst thing of all bad things ever.

This would have been Mike's first fish of the weekend, if it hadn't spit his hook during this jump.

Kenny, Banes, and I went to Lake Puddingstone to catch those bass from shore. I'm gonna be up front with you. We all got skunked. And to top it all off we couldn't swim, wade, or drink!

Nothing like being on the highway at 4:30 am.

By the time we made it to Big Bear Lake, the sun was rising.

Banes taking the reins on Boat #1. Boat #1 consisted of Kenny Ray and Banes. Boat #2 was myself, Mike, and Justin Meyer. We tried out luck at Lake Perris before taking Justin to the airport.

Kenny's been doing a lot of reading up and youtubing on bass fishing. He opened it up with mad confidence.

Another afternoon catching smallies at Big Bear Lake. Today we were trying to get Will Bateman and Justin Meyer on a few. Mike got things popping.

On Sunday, I got sometime on the SeaDoo. This is my second smallmouth of the day. After catching this bad boy, I hauled ass across the lake to get a photo and released him successfully. DEATH TRAP!

Same day a little earlier, I tried my luck fishing at around noon. Nailed my first smallmouth within 5 minutes.
Yeah!

On Saturday I tried wakeboarding for the first time.
